Eugène Rimmel was an industry pioneer who became an expert in the fields of fragrance and cosmetics. He began his career in London in 1834, at the age of 14, where he trained with his father as a perfumer. But it was his brilliant business sense that quickly led the company in to numerous other projects around the world. By the 1850s, Rimmel hygiene and beauty products could be found on almost every continent, making it one of the industry’s earliest global brands. He was the first to develop a non-toxic commercial mascara, and to this day, the word for mascara in several languages is “Rimmel.”
